2015 Jeep Renegade: Jeep Goes Hardcore

Jeep is expanding its product lineup in what is a truly global effort: the next new Jeep for sale at Chapman Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram will be the hotly anticipated 2015 Jeep Renegade. It shares the same platform as the Fiat 500L, and will be built alongside it in Melfi, Italy. The vehicle is meant to be an entry point for Jeep that is not a Patriot or a Compass.

The Renegade flows with two distinct design styles, the traditional Wrangler boxiness and the sultry lines of the Cherokee and Grand Cherokee. The Renegade is another addition to the ever growing small-crossover market, though it will be decidedly more hardcore than its competitors in terms of off-road prowess.

There will be the off-road-oriented Trailhawk model, which offers 8.8 inches of ground clearance along with 8.1 inches of rear-wheel travel. It can also conquer up to 19 inches of water. Many will probably opt for the more plebeian models, but hardcore Jeep enthusiasts will drool over the Trailhawk. We here at Chapman Jeep certainly are.

Two gasoline powertrains will be available at launch. A 1.4-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 160 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of twist with a six-speed manual is standard. The other is engine is the 2.4-liter Tigershark, which makes 184 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. This is paired with Chrysler’s nine-speed automatic transmission, and should deliver over 30 mpg on the highway.

A diesel engine option could come sometime later as Jeep explores its powertrain options.

There will be two different all-wheel drive systems. Jeep Active Drive is a full-time system capable of sending 100 percent of engine power to any wheel as necessary for traction and driving conditions. The Jeep Active Drive Low system is standard on the Trailhawk model and adds a low range gear, giving the Renegade a 20:1 crawl ratio in first gear—mighty off-road chops indeed.

Jeep Active Drive Low also employs a hill-descent feature and Selec-Train traction control, which has Auto Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud, and, on the Trailhawk model, Rock 4×4 driving modes.

The 2015 Jeep Renegade will hit showroom later this fall. To stay updated on the latest Jeep news, contact Chapman Jeep today.
